In early June, Gert-Jan (Sustainable Sourcing Manager) and Hakan (Senior Purchasing Manager) travelled to Morocco to visit some of our grower partners, including Les Délices Majhoul.
Les Délices Majhoul is a thriving family-run organic farm in Boudenib, eastern Morocco. Their mission? To reintroduce and promote the Medjool date through organic cultivation. This globally loved fruit - known for its rich flavour and soft texture - originally finds its home in Morocco.
The welcome from Ali, Kemal and Jaafar was warm and heartfelt. Their pride is tangible when they speak about their work – and rightly so. Together with their team, they deliver top-quality dates that combine craftsmanship and innovation.
Les Délices Majhoul is located in the Tafilalet date valley, a historic region internationally recognised as the birthplace of the Medjool (Majhoul) date. The 200-hectare farm in Boudenib has about 22,000 organic date palms, mostly Majhoul/Medjool, and operates entirely according to sustainable and certified production methods.
In the field, Medjool dates develop in the sun to their full maturity - ready for harvest from September to the end of October. Thanks to good storage, the dates are available year-round.
The names Mahjoul, Mejhoul, Majhoul and Medjool all refer to the same famous date variety native to Morocco. In Arabic, 'Majhoul' literally means 'the unknown'. The Medjool is now globally recognised as the luxury date.
At Les Délices Majhoul, it is not about maximum kilos, but constant quality. That is why a conscious choice is made to grow 10-12 tonnes per hectare instead of 18. This keeps the trees healthy and the volume stable. Each date is picked by hand and assessed by a smart AI-based sorting system. A full truck of 25 tonnes can be loaded within two days - a model of efficiency.
Socially, the company also impresses. Around 100 people are employed throughout the year, rising to over 300 during harvest. Employees working in the fields can opt for safe bus transport organised by Les Délices Majhoul. Employees are insured, receive social security, and the company is fully SMETA- and GRASP-compliant. A special gesture: one of the farm managers received 5 hectares of his own land as a gift from Ali and Kemal - in appreciation of his efforts.
Les Délices Majhoul is more than just a supplier to Eosta – it is a partner with whom we are building a future in which organic dates from Morocco secure their place at the top."
